GAME PLAY

HOW TO PLAY:

First Stage
(Friday, June 11th, 2010 to Friday, June 25th, 2010)

Matches - The objective in this stage, is to accumulate the most points possible.  Points are awarded through;
  1. predicting the correct outcome of each match (win or tie), and
  2. predicting the correct score of each match.
Enter the number of goals you predict each team will score in their respective matches, subsequently indicating your the outcome of the match.  The team you enter as having more goals is who you believe will win the match.  Entering an equal number of goals for both teams, indicates you believe the match will result in a tie.
  • For each correct outcome, you will receive 1 point
  • For each correct score, you will receive 2 points
For tie-breaking purposes, select 10 of the 48 matches that you consider to be your best picks and rank them in order of 1 through 10, 1 being what you believe to be your best choice and 10 being what you believe to be your worst choice.  Enter these numbers in the column titled 'PK' for penalty kicks.

Penalty Kicks - In the event of a tie between two or more entrants to determine who advances to the second stage, we will go to a 'penalty kick shootout'.
The 10 matches you selected for your penalty kicks as indicated in the 'PK' column, will be used in order of sequence.
How it will work is similar to a real penalty kick shootout.  The first five selections (1 through 5), will be the first five regulation penalty kicks.  For each correct match outcome, you will receive a 'goal' against your opponent(s).  For each incorrect match outcome, your opponent(s) made a 'save' against you.

After regulation, those who remain tied, will continue onto 'sudden death' penalty kicks using their remaing five selections (6 through 10).  Each of those selections will be used one by one until a winner is determined.  If a tie cannot be broken after all 10 shots have been played, no one will advance.

Second Stage
(Saturday, June 26th, 2010 to Sunday, June 11th, 2010)

Half the entry field will advance to the second stage.
Example: if there are 21 entrants, only 10 will advance.

All advancing entrants will begin the stage with no points and receive a new form via e-mail for the World Cup tournament with each match in the second stage.
The objective is to once again the accumulate the most points.
  • You will receive 1 point for correctly selecting the winner in each match
  • You will receive 2 points for correctly predicting the score
In this stage, no match outcome will result in a tie.  Games that go to penalty kicks to determine a winner, will be considered a win by one goal.

Example: if you select 'Nation A' to win over 'Nation B' and they do so through penalty kicks, and they entered penalty kicks tied 2-2, 'Nation A' wins.  You are awarded 2 points for predicting the correct score if you entered a score of 3-2.
